Kate Wolf Songbook Reprint Campaign on Kickstarter
At long last we're reprinting the Kate Wolf Songbook...but we need your help!
Because our original printer lost the film, we had to rebuild the book from scratch.
The last step is printing, and for that we've just launched a Kickstarter campaign.
If you've been waiting for the book, or just want to support Kate's music, please visit
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/katewolf/the-kate-wolf-songbook-reprint?ref=email

As a thank you to Kate's fans and the backers, a Kickstarter pledge of $20 gets you a book.
After the campaign, the songbook will be available online for $24 + tax & shipping.

We also have some add-ons, on which you can save 30%:
- Kate Wolf Revisited (songs volume 2) $17, normally $24
- Kate Wolf An Evening In Austin (DVD of Austin City Limits) $17, normally $24
- Carry It On CD reprint (if we make our stretch goals) $10, normally $16

Also check out the "Be Our Guest" 18th Annual Kate Wolf Music Festival pledge level.
The $250 pledge includes the following items (regularly $317 separately):
- One Full Festival Adult Ticket (normally $220 at the gate)
- Festival Shirt & Poster (normally $25 at the festival)
- Both Songbooks and the DVD ($72 retail)
- Carry It On CD if we meet the $7,000 stretch goal ($16 retail)
We'll mail you the ticket and you can pick up the rest at the festival from Kate's family!

So please visit Kickstarter today and help us reach our goal to reprint the Kate Wolf Songbook.

In Memoriam: 25 Years
December 10th marks the 25th anniversary of Kate Wolf's passing.
Kate's family would like to take this opportunity to thank
everyone who has kept Kate's memory alive over the years.
You played her music for friends
You listened to recordings released posthumously
You sent us your heartfelt thoughts of Kate
You discovered Kate via online music services
You attended the Kate Wolf Memorial Music Festival
You organized the sixteen KWMM Festivals (thanks Cloud)
You shared your memories of Kate with your own audiences

We'd like to share a passage that Bruce "Utah" Phillips wrote
for the Kate Wolf Songbook:
"Now, Kate, songmaker, poet, singer and friend has gone on.
I have no statistics nor have I cared to pursue any.
She was an excellent human being: her music was a bonus.
Kate took care of all of us; she paid attention to us,
our troubles, our confusions; she held us all in some
calm center which refused to let any of us vanish.
She was a healer who, through remembrance, will continue
to heal, to care for us."

    Here comes the midnight flyer
        set your watches by her
    Wheels rolling
        coming in on time
No one pays her no mind
        no one hears her crying
    'Cept some old man
        bumming down the line

You can hear the entire song at http://www.katewolf.com/songs/feature.htm. You can also read what Kate had to say about the song.

New Nina Gerber Solo Album in the Works:
Your Tax-Deductible Help Needed!
Another great thing to do before the end of the year is make a tax-deductible donation to a good cause. Nina is getting ready to produce her first solo album on her own label, in conjunction with the Sebastopol Community Center. Proceeds will benefits the "Music As Education" project, sponsored by the Sebastopol Community Center, the folks who co-sponsor the Kate Wolf Memorial Music Festival. The project brings artists into West Sonoma County schools for performance and instruction.

There is more information about this project, along with a donation form, at http://www.katewolf.com/gerber/newalbum.htm.   But if you're in the mood to help right now, simply send a letter to the Sebastopol Community Center along with a check or your MasterCard or Visa credit card number (include expiration date and signature). Donations of $100 or more will receive Nina's album when it's released.

Thank you for any support you can give to Nina's project.

Ford James Solo Album
Ford James played bass and sang on several of Kate's albums, as well as the video from Austin City Limits. We just found out that he released his own album last year. Visit his website at http://www.fordjames.com and click on Recordings.

2000 Kate Wolf Memorial Festival Plans
Plans for next year's Kate Wolf Memorial Music Festival are underway. It's June 24th & 25th at Caswell Vineyards in Sebastopol, California. The festival organizers are also considering a half-day on Friday the 23rd. Those of you who've come in the past know that the festival is in a small intimate setting, and is inclined to sell out. Tickets will be available early next year from Cumulus at 707/829-7067.

* Make Lodging Reservations Early
Last year there wasn't a nearby hotel room to be had in late June. Check out the list of local hotels and motels on our website at http://www.katewolf.com/festival/lodging. (NASCAR fans at Sears Point Raceway in Sonoma will book the same weekend again this year.)

* Vehicle Camping
Or if you have your own RV, you can sleep right across the street from the festival. A local resident opens her land for campers. Call 707/874-3411 for details and reservations. There's more info at http://www.katewolf.com/festival/camping.htm.

* Here's the artist list so far:
Eric Bogle
Greg Brown
Nina Gerber
Kathy Kallick
Laurie Lewis & Tom Rozum
Tom Paxton
Utah Phillips

As we get them, we'll post new details to http://www.katewolf.com/festival.
We hope to see you in June!

Song Of the Month: Peace Carol
Our latest Kate Wolf Song of the Month is another tune that has never appeared on any recording. We chose Peace Carol, another one of Kate's Christmas songs, written December 21, 1983.

    And now the carols
        have all been sung
The presents passed from hand to hand
        the wrappings all undone
The children play like children everywhere
        they just want to live
But it's not what we have
        it's what we give
    Christmas time reminds us
another year has come and gone
and now we must carry on

You can hear the entire song at http://www.katewolf.com/songs/feature.htm.   You can also read what Kate had to say about the song.

Our latest Kate Wolf Song of the Month is another tune that has never appeared on any recording. We chose North Main Street in honor of this month's Festival. On the way to the Festival, most of us will drive up Main Street through Sebastopol in Sonoma County. The character has changed a lot since Kate lived there: streets are now one way, empty lots are full of tract houses, and the railroad tracks are gone. However, you can still see the big old house that Kate wrote about in this song. The dark red Victorian sits above Main Street across from Safeway on the northern end just before Highway 116 curves to the left. This is one of the first songs that Kate composed, and will give you an idea of her work at the beginning of her songwriting career.

    Looking out my window
        what do I see
    That old sun comes shining
        through the cypress trees
    A big old ramblin' house
built long ago for someone's wife
In the heart of the city
        living a mellow country life

You can hear the entire song at http://www.katewolf.com/songs/feature.htm.   There's also a recording of Kate talking about North Main Street. And this month we've included a higher fidelity recording in the popular MPG format.

Song Of the Month: Golden Harmony
Our 7th Kate Wolf Song of the Month is another tune that has never appeared on any recording. For the month of February, you can listen to an entire performance of Golden Harmony from the Kate Wolf Archives.

Like Give Yourself To Love, which celebrates a new union, Golden Harmony is a celebration of a new life. Kate wrote this song after the birth of Arnold George Schroder, the son of the author of The Redtail Hawk. The senior George Schroder was an early musical friend and mentor for Kate, as she demonstrated in the chorus:
    You who touched my life
and made me try my melodies
I'm so happy for you now
and your woman in her hour
    Of golden harmony

And the whole thing can he heard at http://www.katewolf.com/songs/feature.htm. There's also a recording of Kate talking about Golden Harmony.

Our sixth Kate Wolf Song of the Month is yet another unreleased track that has never appeared on any recording. For the month of December, you can listen to an entire performance of Midnight Star (A Christmas Star) from the Kate Wolf Archives.

This song is very appropriate for the holidays, as Kate was very fond of Christmas.

The first verse is:
Let me tell you a story
            it happened long ago
When the pines were dancing in the wind
            on the Mendocino shore
      The town lights were blazing
            there were parties everywhere
      It was Christmas Eve
And joy was in the air

And the whole thing can he heard at http://www.katewolf.com/songs/feature.htm.   There's also a recording of Kate talking about writing Midnight Star.

Those of you who have the second Kate Wolf Songbook may be familiar with the tune, and now you'll finally be able to hear it! The first verse is:
      Life Could Be So Easy
if the loving weren't so hard
      A heart given freely
wasn't meant to be on guard
And the joy that living brings you
            love worries for its own
And life could be so easy
if the heart could find a home
and the whole thing can he heard at http://www.katewolf.com/songs/feature.htm.

1998 Kate Wolf Memorial Music Festival In Review
==========================================
The festival was a sell-out success! It was easily the biggest audience we've had since the festival began in 1996. Even the weather cooperated this year.
If you'd like to hear what festival goers had to say, visit the Festival Feedback page at http://www.katewolf.com/festival/1998_feedback.htm.
The organizer has promised to retain the festival's small-venue low-key feeling, and keep it at Caswell Vineyards. So next year we can expect more of the same.

Kate Wolf Shirts: "Running Wolves" & A New Design
===========================================
Last year we didn't reprint the "running wolves" shirts that Kate originally sold at her concerts, and boy did we hear about it! Seems like everyone likes that simple design. So they're back. Check 'em out on the website.
We also have a new design: a drawing of Kate and her guitar done in a "calligraphic" style. This "1998 Edition" Kate Wolf shirt was very popular at the festival. You can see what it looks like at http://www.katewolf.com/store/shirt_98.htm.

Each month, the Official Kate Wolf Website features a song that hasn't been released on a Kate Wolf album.  For one month, the entire song will be available for listening.   You can also hear Kate introduce the song, and you can read some of the lyrics.

In The Minstrel, Kate reminisces about one of many fellow songwriters who encouraged and inspired her.

    Won't you play that tune
that held me in those days
When I was singing to myself
        and you had gone away

We hope you can join us June 14th & 15th, 1997.

Mail order sales greatly help our mission to keep Kate's music alive. Your support will ensure Owl Productions' continued periodic release of new albums and videos. To that end, here are some items you might consider for gift giving this season. (See our website for details.)

Newsletter 1   May, 1996 (paper, not email)

Ten years after her passing, Kate Wolf is alive and well in the hearts of her family and fans. As keepers of her legacy, Kate's family is deeply touched by the continuing interest in her music, and we are very pleased to present some new opportunities for sharing her work.

Kate Wolf Cassettes Are Back
Kate Wolf founded Owl Records twenty years ago to release her first album Back Roads. After signing with Kaleidoscope Records, Owl Records became Owl Productions, the name Kate would use to manage her music affairs. Her family continues to use the name today. Now we are proud to announce the resurrection of Owl Records to re-release Kate's recordings on audio cassette. Thanks to those of you who've asked for tapes and waited so patiently.

New Kate Wolf Album
Since the last album release, Looking Back At You, two years ago, Kate's family has been working with a new record company, Flat Rock Records, run by Kaleidoscope Records co-founder Tom Diamant. They have released a new album of recordings made in the early Eighties on public radio. See Carry It On inside.

New Kate Wolf Video
Kate's fans, especially those who didn't have the opportunity to see her in concert, have told us how much they appreciate the concert video An Evening In Austin. Many of you have asked if there were other videos, and until now we have had to say no. However, we recently discovered a 1980 studio performance that we think you'll really enjoy. See Here In California inside.

Kate Wolf Retrospective Concert
In 1992, Kate's family hosted a memorial concert featuring many of her musical colleagues. We're very excited about a new show scheduled for June 15, 1996. Dubbed A Kate Wolf Retrospective, this concert will reunite Kate's friends, colleagues, and family in an outdoor celebration reminiscent of the many shows and festivals that Kate produced in Sonoma County. We hope you can join us. Details inside.

Choose Your Favorite Kate Wolf Songs
We need your help in choosing recordings for a new "best of" Kate Wolf collection from Rhino Records. Please take a few minutes to make a list of your favorite songs and send it to us. See the enclosed survey.

Kate Wolf On The Web
The Official Kate Wolf World Wide Web site has been a great success. Thanks to all of you who've dropped in to say hello — we're glad you liked the articles, biography, song excerpts, links, and other information. And since we add new material every month, we hope you'll visit again...and often!

Kate's family feels that Kate would be very pleased with the posthumous release of her works. Our two greatest rewards are hearing from old fans who thank us for keeping her music alive, and hearing from the increasing number of new fans just discovering Kate's music. We love her, and know you do, too.
